We are excited to showcase our latest project at Clyde Grammar, where we engineered and installed a custom barrel shade structure for the school’s new campus. This innovative project involved shading a heritage Melbourne tram car, a unique feature of the school’s outdoor learning and recreational area.
Project Details
Client Requirement: The challenge was to design a shade solution that could effectively cover the tram car while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing look. The aim was to ensure that the outdoor space could be utilised throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
Solution: Our team chose the Barrel Shade Structure, leveraging the Triax system for its modern and versatile design. This system is renowned for its ability to cover large spans with minimal internal supports, creating a clean and open space. The Triax system’s unique architecture provides robust protection against the elements while enhancing the visual appeal of the area.
Materials Used
- Canopy Fabric: The canopy was constructed using Bochini Architectural PVC from Ricky Richards. This high-performance material is known for its exceptional durability, UV resistance, and weatherproof properties, making it ideal for long-term outdoor use.
- Steel Frame: The structure’s frame was powder-coated in Dune from the Interpon range, ensuring both strength and a sleek, contemporary finish. The powder coating process provides an additional layer of protection against corrosion and wear.
- Outcome: The completed barrel shade structure has created a functional and attractive outdoor area that enhances the school’s campus. The design provides comprehensive shade and shelter, allowing the tram car area to be used effectively in all weather conditions.
